Easy Placemat Pillow

I have been on the hunt for a simple way to make a crib-sized pillow using something I already had, and I read about the idea of stuffing a placemat and using it as a pillow. Thankfully, I had 4 identical placemats in a color and style befitting my daughter’s room (that I had purchased about a year ago).

Giving credit where it is due, I attempted some origin research to find the original post about placemat pillows. The oldest existing post I found about placemat pillows was from Mad in Crafts, who cites Domestically Speaking as the source of inspiration. However, the placemat pillow post is no longer available on Domestically Speaking.

Easy Peasy Placemat Pillow

Using a gifted Boppy’s stuffing, and placemats that cost $6 for 4, it cost me $6 in new purchases to make this cushion for my daughter’s bed. Although I had purchased the placemats a year ago, my mom, nor I ever used them, so it was as if I had purchased them to be used as pillows.

  1. This is darling! The color coordinates with the bench and closet curtain too, another super-cute addition!

    1. :) This has been an easy month for me, so far. Love having a little break, but also getting to use stuffed animals in the photos has made it fun!

    1. Oh, Colette, you can do this! :)

Here's a tutorial for a ladder stitch to sew the pillow closed without a visible seam

And a video about ladder stitching.

I made a visible backstitch, like in this video.

      Hope this helps! :)
